What Is The Similarity Between a Dog and a Wolf?

The story of the similarities between the dog and the wolf is a somewhat thankless topic for discussion. It is hard to believe the great resemblance between a toy poodle and a gray wolf, but it is perhaps equally incredible to see the resemblance between a toy poodle and a Neapolitan mastiff. Although we all agree that the poodle and the mastiff are indeed dogs. The differences between our pet dogs and wolves are certainly big if we talk about appearance and behavior. The fact that these two species are still extremely similar is that they can mate with each other and produce fertile offspring. The most famous hybrids in the animal world are certainly the mule, which was obtained by mating a donkey and a mare, and the mule, which was obtained by mating a donkey and a stallion. But it is interesting that these two hybrids are not fertile animals, so they cannot give offspring.

Physiological similarity between dogs and wolves What we want to emphasize here is the physiological similarity between dogs and wolves, especially the similarity in the digestive system of dogs and wolves and the diet that is optimal for these two species. That is, identically optimal:

  • raw meat,
  • bones,
  • cartilage,
  • offal
  • and some fruits and vegetables

Our BARF products. The dog has been with man for a little over 10,000 years, which was enough to change its nature. But those same 10,000 years are "the blink of an eye" in evolutionary terms and not enough to change the digestive system. Living with humans, the dog remained a carnivore.

The dog did not become a carnivore, as manufacturers of industrial dog food try to portray. Raw food is still the pinnacle of healthy nutrition that you can offer your dog. Because raw meat is the food that the dog's digestive system recognizes and digests best. But nutrition is not the only "wolfish" thing left in the dog. It would also be beneficial for the health of our pets if they had the opportunity to lead a 'wolf life' as much as possible in terms of time spent in nature and walking. Because today, for dogs, the lack of physical activity has become the cause of many diseases. That's why we want to emphasize that, in addition to quality nutrition, a conscientious owner must also provide quality physical activity to his dogs. An activity that positively affects the physical and mental health of the dog. Most of the dogs nowadays spend most of the day locked in the apartment waiting for their people to come home from work. And as much as it sounds excessive, walking a dog for half an hour on the asphalt between cars, crowds of people and other dogs causes a lot of frustration for the dog. Even if we have chosen city life for ourselves and our dog, it is important to make us aware that going for walks in nature is necessary for the dog's health.
