Gastritis in dogs. Why is raw food the right choice for dogs with gastritis?

Gastritis kod pasa se sve češće događa. Mogli bi reći da zadnjih nekoliko godina imamo osjećaj da više pasa ima gastritis, nego što ih nema.

Gastritis in dogs. Why is raw food the right choice for dogs with gastritis?

Gastritis in dogs is happening more and more often. You could say that in the last few years we have the feeling that more dogs have gastritis than don't. So, something definitely very bad has been going on in the lives of dogs for the last few decades. What we want to say something about is their diet. Raw food has several advantages. It does not swell in the stomach, it does not increase its volume as is the case with dehydrated food. This is extremely important for large dog breeds that are prone to stomach torsion. Raw food does not stick to the stomach wall and stays in the stomach for a relatively short time because a balanced raw meal is much more digestible than intensively thermally processed food. Let's remember only ourselves and the feeling when we eat, for example, a tuna salad or a greasy bun with cream, kebabs and onions. Dogs have it even worse because their stomachs are designed to digest raw meat. On a very important note...

dogs have a "this is really nice" value system - BARF is definitely very high. A large number of dogs have been saved by their pickiness because their owners looked for something that their furry friend likes to eat and found BARF. The pH of the stomach in carnivores is physiologically very acidic (pH 1-2). Such acidic media ensures fast digestion of raw meat, bones and cartilage, but also protects the body from potentially dangerous microorganisms. In order for the digestion in the intestines to be optimal, it is important that the content that passes from the stomach to the intestines is very acidic, because it is precisely the highly acidic content that stimulates the optimal secretion of digestive enzymes of the intestines, pancreas and the secretion of bile. Dogs that eat food that contains a lot of carbohydrates, vegetable proteins and is intensively thermally processed have a higher pH in the stomach. High pH is then a direct cause of poor digestion of food in the stomach and intestines. The defensive role of stomach acid is also impaired. A higher pH enables the survival of a greater number of pathogenic microorganisms, which then cause various diseases of the digestive system as well as the whole organism.

What mainly causes gastritis in dogs? In very simplified terms, if food stays in the stomach for a long time and is poorly digested, the processes of putrefaction begin, which cause inflammation of the stomach (

gastritis), and then various intestinal diseases. For dogs that have been diagnosed with gastritis and are in the acute phase of the disease, so they show symptoms such as: barf-sensitive/">Von BARF Sensitive. After the symptoms of gastritis subside, we recommend that Von BARF Starter be gradually mixed into the Sensitiva meal. Every day, increasing the amount of Starter, while decreasing the amount of Sensitiv. Some dogs completely switch to Starter, and some prefer to have a portion of the meal remain Sensitive. Which ratio is best assessed by the owners themselves, because it was about the individual needs of the dog. For dogs that are not in the acute phase of gastritis, but are prone to it, we recommend Von BARF Starter. Just by switching to natural and balanced raw food, the symptoms of gastritis will not return.
