Fish Oil as a Dietary Supplement for Dogs.

Fish oil is very unstable and prone to oxidation - spoilage because it is rich in unsaturated fatty acids. It is precisely these fatty acids that are why the use of fish oil is recommended. In addition to the fact that fish oil is very unstable and needs to be protected with preservatives, either synthetic or natural, its production process can also have a greater or lesser impact on the quality of the oil and its actual benefits for the body. High temperature, light and air - oxygen, are also great enemies of fish oil. In short, quality fish oil is not easy to produce, nor is it easy and cheap to buy. A lot of research is needed to make sure that fish oil is really of good quality.

Why is sardine a better source of fish oil than any fish oil in a bottle or capsule? Because it is a quality small blue fish rich in omega-3 acids. It is always better to choose small blue fish because such fish have been reported to have less accumulation of heavy metals and toxins. Fish oil is most often obtained from salmon. However, with large fish, the accumulation of heavy metals in the body is a problem, and frequent feeding of such types of fish is not recommended. Blue fish such as sardines are available and relatively cheap, and contain fish oil in its most natural form, better than any fish oil in a bottle or capsule.

What are the benefits of omega-3 fatty acids? Fats are extremely important in the diet of dogs, they are often neglected, and especially their quality is often neglected. Fats are a source of energy, but that is not their only role. Fats play a role

  • in the construction of cell membranes,
  • help the resorption of fat-soluble vitamins,
  • control hormones,
  • chemical are messengers
  • play a major role in the regulation of the inflammatory reaction.

When we talk about omega-3 fatty acids, their most important role is the regulation of the inflammatory reaction. Omega-6 fatty acids stimulate the inflammatory reaction, which is very important in order to trigger the body's immune response. Omega-3 fatty acids act opposite to omega-6 fatty acids, so they reduce the inflammatory reaction, which is very important for the control of chronic diseases and allergic reactions. The optimal ratio of omega-6 and omega-3 fatty acids promotes the appropriate immune response of the body. Simply put, if your dog is suffering from allergies, it is definitely important that he gets sufficient amounts of omega-3 fatty acids, which calm down the inflammatory reaction. This also applies to dogs suffering from chronic inflammatory processes and the resulting chronic pain, eg rheumatoid arthritis. Sources of omega-3 fatty acids of plant origin are:

  • flax and hemp seeds,
  • chia seeds,
  • walnuts ,
  • soy

contain ALA (alpha-linolenic) omega-3 fatty acid. However, due to the lack of enzymes for its conversion to EPA (eicosapentaenoic) and then to DHA (docosahexaenoic), canids can use it very little, no more than 20%. With age, the activity of this enzyme decreases even more, so the utilization of this type of omega 3 fatty acids is insignificant. To conclude... Blue fish is by far the best source and choice of laundry oil for your pet, and our product Von Barf Adriatic contains exactly the Adriatic sardine.
