VON BARF PREMIUM SELECTION HORSE is a supplementary, frozen, biologically appropriate raw food for dogs. It contains horse meat and seasonal fruits and vegetables.

Horse meat is an excellent source of proteins and other essential nutrients such as iron, zinc, selenium and vitamin B. It contains less fat than other types of red meat and very little cholesterol.

VON BARF PREMIUM SELECTION HORSE is a mono-protein food and an excellent choice for allergy-prone dogs, especially for dogs that tested allergic to proteins from meat normally used in the production of dog food (chicken and beef).

In addition to dogs suffering from allergies, this food is especially suitable for dogs that have to limit their fat intake due to various health issues, e.g. dogs with impaired liver and/or pancreatic function. Because it is rich in iron, it is also recommended for dogs with iron deficiency.

Ingredients:

  • horse meat 60%
  • horse entrails (heart, liver, kidneys, lungs) 25%
  • fruits and vegetables 15%

As this food does not contain ground bone and cartilage, it is recommended to combine it with other raw Von BARF products to provide a complete meal for your dog.

It is best to supplement this product by giving your dog a bone 2-3 times a week, the one which is appropriate in size and quantity to the size of the dog. Look for knuckle bones with a lot of cartilage, preferably with some meat on them as well. Bones must be raw.

(Feeding a complete meal does not mean that a dog has to get specific amounts of different nutrients every day, but that this idea is met throughout a week or ten days by combining different foods and meals.)

FEEDING GUIDE

The amount of food needed for one meal should be thawed and served when it reaches room temperature. This food must not be exposed to high temperatures, cooked or heated in the microwave.

Thawed BARF can be kept in the refrigerator for up to 24 hours. When taken out of the refrigerator, the meal should be served when it reaches room temperature.

NUMBER AND SIZE OF MEALS

It is recommended to feed adult, healthy dogs once a day. If a dog is used to eating 2-3 meals a day, this may be continued.

Puppies, bitches in late pregnancy and lactation and dogs with health issues are usually fed several times a day.

The size of meals depends on the body weight, activity level and age of the dog. The meal should amount to 2-5% of body weight, for adult dogs this is usually about 2% of their body weight.

It is recommended that you weigh your dog before switching to BARF and again two to three weeks after. Depending on the goal (weight maintenance, weight loss, weight gain), adjust the size of the meal accordingly.
